When you have a family, it’s a good idea to landscape your garden to suit you, otherwise you risk it getting ruined… If all you have is grass, you’ll need to be careful, repeated running inside and out of your back door by children and/or pets can ruin your grass, so it might be worthwhile considering bark, or pebbles, or perhaps a path or patio leading up to your back door.
The other benefit of having a patio is that during summer it can become the floor for the paddling pool! We would suggest having an area that is textured stone (this reduces chances of slipping and someone getting hurt) with a drain. This way when it comes to emptying your paddling pool, or simply cleaning the stones, you have somewhere for it to drain to, other than your grass. However, you don’t need to think of this as purely for a pool, when the children grow up, it could be purely a seating area, or a spot for a fire pit or BBQ or perhaps even a hot tub!
