One of the questions we are most commonly asked is ‘Can I lay my own patio?’ Now while this is possible, it is not always the easiest task to complete on your own. While you may just think it’s as simple as laying the patio slabs on the ground it’s not. It is possible, but you do need to know it is not as easy as it may seem.
Firstly, before you even begin laying your patio, you need to make sure the ground is prepared. You need to make your ground level and clear of debris to make the patio laying process as easy as possible. This first step can take a lot of time to complete so consider this.
You need to place a layer of hardcore (broken bits of rubble) onto the area where the patio is going. This works as a drainage system.
Then using mortar bedding you can lay your slabs. This can either be placed all across the area or as circles on your slabs. Mortar can be purchased ready-made or created yourself with sharp sand and cement.
